From the BBC: Researchers in Poland say they have solved a centuries-old mystery and identified the remains of astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.

A comparison of DNA from a skeleton in Poland and strands of the astronomer's hair found in a book in Sweden almost certainly confirm it is his skeleton.

I am now amused when reading about Copernicus' post at Frombork as a canon. He was not supposed to still be lay clergy -- he was *supposed* to take ordination to continue working in the Church. But he succeeded time and again in dodging the hierarchical requirement. (Rather much as Feynman succeeded in evading "respectability" at CalTech by refusing to be involved in any of the standard demands of academic bureaucracy...)
