As you may know, [livejournal.com profile] tullio42has been working to teach middle-school students to build model rockets.

The class culminated in a mass launch. The Battle Creek Enquirer, in addition to covering the event in prose and (great) pictures, also shot video. Looks like it turned out very well. I'm pleased. I'll bet [livejournal.com profile] bigbumble is, too.

Spaceport Michigan II, anyone?

Big fun! Thanks for the links. This former resident is compelled to bring your attention to the typo in the newspaper's name. It's the Battle Creek Enquirer. Funny the things we remember 34 years after moving away....

(It used to be the Battle Creek Enquirer and News, which suggests it was two separate newspapers once upon a time. If so, that time was before my childhood.

Yay, Tullio!

It's the Battle Creek Enquirer.

Repaired. Thanks for the correction.

(If there's a distinction between "inquire" and "enquire" it eludes me, but the paper's name is what it is.)

One of the best classes I had was the model rocketry class I took in 8th grade.

Talked with a hard core model rocketer and the ATF*k's have made the rules so hard they've went to "Sausage rockets", Nitrous oxide and about any organic molded properly will give a specific impulse of reasonably good (i.e. EEP) proportions.

It's funny how restrictions prod progress.

Spaceport Michigan does have it's attraction, but I think our Canadian neighbours might object to the falling launch debris. It's also just a *bit* far north, though not any worse than Baikonur (at almost 46 degrees north).
