My Sister-in-Law Is Going to a Banquet
Oct. 22nd, 2007 05:42 pm
Tonight my late brother, John M. Higgins, will be inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame.
As far as I know, John is the first family member to make it into any Hall of Fame.

Life does not suck. It is precious, and full of wonders. Cherish those you have, while they are with you.
Getting to spend a week in New York with my brother, two months before he died, turned out to have been an amazing gift.

Date: 2007-10-23 06:31 am (UTC)That link lists as many halls of fame as some dedicated Wikipedian could find, and more power to him. I had a flicker of hope of finding my grandfather in the Sault Ste. Marie Hall of Fame, (depending on what it was for) but it is in the Canadian Soo, not on the American side. I then clicked through to the hall of fame that sounded the most obscurely interesting. Shall I just up and say which it was, or would you like to guess?

Date: 2007-10-24 01:50 am (UTC)I was tempted to guess the Robot Hall of Fame, and the National Toy Hall of Fame, but I have some confidence that you clicked to the Mascot Hall of Fame.
Because I would have.
(The list includes the Movieland Star Hall of Fame, with a puzzlingly irrelevant link to the article for Gloria Estefan. Before disco, Gloria went to Our Lady of Lourdes Academy with my sisters.)
If they ever start a Minnehaha Falls of Fame, you'll be in it, fer shure.

Date: 2007-10-23 10:04 pm (UTC)John might well have felt the same way. He was delighted when the Heterodyne Boys first appeared in a comic. He loved comic strips, he counted cartoonists among his friends, and he once even published a book of Michael Molinelli's campus comic strips. (Their company? "Buy the Book Press.")
