John M. Higgins, summarized in a few pixels by my cellphone's camera.

Tonight my late brother, John M. Higgins, will be inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame.

As far as I know, John is the first family member to make it into any Hall of Fame.

Even though I never met him, I'm glad he's being remembered and honoured. That sort of honour is a part of his legacy, and a very public footnote to his life.

I'm sorry this had to be posthumous.

Good to know he is being recognized.

Damn it, this seems entirely wrong and obscene. Wasn't it just last week that we were having dinner with you and him?

Life sucks. I want a refund. Or at least an improved warning label.

And [livejournal.com profile] elisem. It was the week before we lost Mike Ford.

Life sucks. I want a refund. Or at least an improved warning label.

Life does not suck. It is precious, and full of wonders. Cherish those you have, while they are with you.

Getting to spend a week in New York with my brother, two months before he died, turned out to have been an amazing gift.

You're entirely right, of course.

I am glad John is being not just remembered but honored, and wish he were here to enjoy the fun, and that you could watch him being inducted.

That link lists as many halls of fame as some dedicated Wikipedian could find, and more power to him. I had a flicker of hope of finding my grandfather in the Sault Ste. Marie Hall of Fame, (depending on what it was for) but it is in the Canadian Soo, not on the American side. I then clicked through to the hall of fame that sounded the most obscurely interesting. Shall I just up and say which it was, or would you like to guess?

K.

I was tempted to guess the Robot Hall of Fame, and the National Toy Hall of Fame, but I have some confidence that you clicked to the Mascot Hall of Fame.

Because I would have.

(The list includes the Movieland Star Hall of Fame, with a puzzlingly irrelevant link to the article for Gloria Estefan. Before disco, Gloria went to Our Lady of Lourdes Academy with my sisters.)

If they ever start a Minnehaha Falls of Fame, you'll be in it, fer shure.

Sure, he may have been inducted into a Hall of Fame, but you have been immortalized in a comic-book. I'd rather have the latter, but that's just me.

John might well have felt the same way. He was delighted when the Heterodyne Boys first appeared in a comic. He loved comic strips, he counted cartoonists among his friends, and he once even published a book of Michael Molinelli's campus comic strips. (Their company? "Buy the Book Press.")
