Comet Ho(lmes)!
Oct. 28th, 2007 11:28 pmFinally got clear skies, and an evening to enjoy them. Went hunting for the spectacular new object in our skies. It became 400,000 times brighter between Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
Comet Holmes is easy to see as a naked-eye object in Perseus. It's clearly a fuzzball in the 10x50 binoculars.
Had a lot of trouble with the six-inch reflector-- my finder scope probably needs to be realigned-- but finally nailed the comet. Looked circular to me, with a distinctly brighter center.
I'd like to try getting pictures with my Kodak Z710, which has a 10x optical zoom, but I haven't yet mastered taking pictures of the night sky with it.
