You found 69 Democrats in Naperville? Well done! Do you have campaign buttons? I want a campaign button!

Thanks, but... It's not much of an achievement, folks, and scarcely worth congratulations. I was on the ballot, unopposed, for the lowest-level party function. This time, the Republican committeeman (also unopposed) got nearly twice as many votes.

Just thought it might be worth mentioning, in an exaggeratedly dramatic way.

I was considering complaining that international election observers didn't make a big deal about the obvious sham elections in the totalitarian state of the Naperville Township Democratic Party Committee. But in the current US political environment, there was no way to distinguish it from something somebody would say completely in earnest.

I was wondering about that. I mean, congratulations and all, but now what happens in Republican Naperville?

Perhaps Naperville is not as Republican as you think it is. Democrats have been elected to local offices. Demographics are changing. President Obama carried my precinct in 2008.

There were probably a lot more Republican ballots cast. I suppose the real question is "of the ballots cast in Democratic Primary how many people voted in the committeeman election"?

Of 1198 eligible voters registered in the 23rd Precinct, 241 chose to vote in this election, a turnout of 20%.

4 non-partisan ballots were cast (a proposition about municipal electricity was the only question on them, I believe).

78 Democratic ballots were cast, with 69 voting on precinct committeeman, or 88.5%.

159 Republican ballots were cast, with 138 voting on precinct committeeman, or 86.8%.
