Musecon 1 was good fun. Here are some participants in Saturday's Ukulele Summit, and some of their hardware.

Was only at Musecon for an hour for Eric's wedding.

But on Sunday, I was at Beatles Fest, where I got to hear the Harrison Street Uke Players perform Beatles songs.

Did Harrison Street make the finals this year? Two people in the photo above are occasional Harrison Street habitues. But not committed enough to pay for Beatles Fest tickets.

They were one of the groups to play in the battle of the bands last night, but we left after the last group played and before the voting. My guess, based on listening to the bands, is that a group calling itself Mr. Mustard probably one. (Just checked the Facebook page, Mr. Mustard's "That Boy" was the winner, they followed up with "Magical Mystery Tour").

There was also a very good string quartet playing "Eleanor Rigby" (although their singer was mediocre).

Brilliant idea for a photo op. We really do need to get this same shot again, only next time standing in front of a Zeppelin. Or I'd accept a B-29. And we need bomber jackets.

Is there a special name for those banjo-looking ukuleles? Or is "ukulele" a one size fits all name?

"Banjo ukulele" is the common term, or sometimes "banjolele." They date back to the 1920's, when performers needed louder ukes to fill vaudeville halls before electronic amplification was available. A distinguished historical precedent for a loud and ultimately silly instrument. Of course you want one.

I'm doing well if I can play the kazoo. yes, it looks nifty, but I tend to be all thumbs when it comes to musical instruments.

Oh, I've arranged some 19th century French classical music for banjo ukulele and kazoo, if you are interested.

I was very tempted to buy a flying V Uke I saw a few of weeks ago.

Pictured running it through effects pedals.
