Bill Leininger needs help. He is a guy who has not only helped moved me many times, but for years has showed up almost any time an SF fan in Chicago was moving. He has accumulated more Moving Karma than anyone else I know. If Bill decided to move to Mars, I would feel obliged to help him.

As I write this, he is piloting a truckload of his worldly possessions up from Mississippi.

He expects to arrive in Mokena, Illinois tomorrow, Sunday afternoon, at a time which cannot yet be predicted with accuracy.

Upon arriving there, he plans, for reasons not encompassed by my Visualization of the Cosmic All, to unload his stuff into a storage locker. Then he will return his rental truck. All must be accomplished before Monday morning.

If you can help, leave a comment, or e-mail me your phone number (higgins at f n a l dot g o v). I will try to notify you when Bill is getting close, and provide you with directions.

Wish we could be there. He helped us move... twice. It's a little far to drive, tho. :) Good luck!

Yes, it would have been; I had a good excuse for driving, myself; it was the only way the truck would get there. Otherwise, I was more in the way for the unloading than helpful.

Of course, I was the guy who'd put all that stuff IN the truck in the first place, so they forgave me.

Bill has never helped me move, but in his defense, I don't think I've ever asked him to.

Regrettably, it would be/would have been impractical for me to travel to Mokena from Florida to assist today. Perhaps you could send me the pizza bill?

Actually, we went to a rib/BBQ place. I paid gladly, as they'd omitted the ritual stipulation to never move again...

I agree. Worth every penny. :)

The final step of the move was accomplished, before sunset even.

Many, many thanks to the active participants: Rolf Wilson, Jerry Corrigan, and Bill Higgins. They quickly undid the work I'd spent 3 days doing in loading the truck, and forgave me my errors in judgment in packing.

Many thanks to those that wished they could have helped, if the logistics had been different.

Once again, when I prove that my organizational skills are weak, my friends come through in the gap.

I am quite lucky in that way.

(And apologies to Alice, whom my iPhone chose to call at an odd moment when I thought I was just putting it away.)

Yay for moving help! Glad you had willing and able assistants. And with that group, I'm betting you even had some fun in the process.

We did have to keep each other from browsing the books...

No kidding. Bill actually moved bookcases into the storage locker and then we started shelving books in the bookcases. Soon it was just like being in a library. Well, a very poorly decorated library, with metal walls.

It took rigid discipline to keep from browsing.
