I was browsing models in a store today, and noticed a Revell 1/72 scale kit billed as PT-109, the torpedo boat commanded by President John F. Kennedy.

Fighter plane kits were nearby. It occurred to me to wonder why they didn't also have a Convair F-102 Delta Dart, as flown by President George W. Bush.

Whoever owns those licensing rights on Convair planes probably declined the bragging-rights line-item.

Cause the never made a movie about his "exploits" as they did with Kennedy - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057393/ - and signed a licensing agreement which I guess they either never let lapse or just kept using and no one screamed.

Hmm, that PT 109 has been on the shelves since I was a kid...I think [livejournal.com profile] bigbumble might have even built one back in the 60's. The Elder Bush's TBM has been on the shelves since, well, since he was president.

Just as a aside the Dart was a bear to arm, fly or maintain. It took a great deal of smarts to do anything w/that bird... including refueling.
