An important question about Google's new gateway to a couple million photos from Life magazine: can we link to the photos?

Berkeley cyclotron console, 1939

If a picture of the Berkeley cyclotron console does not appear here, let me know.

A picture appeared there. I wouldn't swear it was the Berkley cyclotron console, though. How many topless women are supposed to be in the Berkley cyclotron console photo, anyway?

Visible.

But how come I don't see the topless women?

That just means you aren't pure enough of heart.

Ah, so it's Schrödinger's -- um, never mind.

This is a link error. The photo shows the control room of Emperor Zog's spaceship.

You raise a good point: Life has just provided us with endless fodder for caption contests.

I swear I didn't know it was loaded! That'll teach me to post before I think...

So, is there a site devoted to this yet, or are you and I going to create one based on science photos?

I haven't gone looking, but the archive has only been up for less than 24 hours.

I guess that is enough time to get a Web Two Point Oh operation up and running, if you're young and have plenty of Mountain Dew. Maybe somebody has.

Anyway, I think you have a dandy idea, but I gather Life doesn't want us using its pictures for profit. So maybe we couldn't make money on it.

There sure are a lot of pictures to love...

You'd be shocked at how fast a Ruby on Rails project like that could be up and running. I don't have the time, but an expert could have it up in about an hour, no Mountain Dew required.

I've heard of Jet Assisted cars, but didn't really think of a truck assisted jet.

It's disturbing that the aircraft's pilot has very poor visibility to the rear.

You see...here's the run. I don't know what the Berkeley Cyclotron Console looks like. I've never seen it....

So I cannot with any certainty tell you that this picture of some 50's looking guy at a old retro-looking tech console IS IN FACT the Berkeley Cyclotron Console. It could be the radio man on Titanic think "This is a GREAT job...and what could possibly go wrong?" for all I know. It could be a picture taken 3 hours ago if Dell's crack team of tech support staff using the most advanced technical support equipment Dell has to offer. Heck, knowing you as I do, this console could actually be in your house (however I would be surprised that Life magazine documented that...!

So to answer your question, I see a picture of a guy at a console...but cannot verify WHICH console.
