Apparently "may seem like science fiction" doesn't get nearly as many hits as "may sound like science fiction," though I would have guessed the former would be more popular than the latter.
Searching for "may sound like science fiction but" reduces the number of hits only slightly. So initially I missed a word of the cliche.
