As I foretold long ago, President Martin Van Buren has again appeared in my pocket.*

Long-time readers will recall that, in 2003, I opened up a roll of dollar coins only to find among them the face of our eighth President. The U.S. Mint had issued no such coin-- but I predicted that someday things might be different, speculating that the MVB-buck had fallen into my hands through a rift in spacetime.

Last week I found another.

The Mint has at last honored President Van Buren. It was nice to see him again. The second coin, however, does not say A MASTER POLITICIAN, DAPPER PARTY BOSS, DEBATER AND LEADER; FIRST NATIVE BORN U.S. CITIZEN TO BECOME PRESIDENT on the back-- so it is possible that the first coin may have slipped over from an adjacent parallel timeline.**

Of course, a more mundane explanation is possible, but far less interesting.

*(Regarding the "Got Milk?" commercial I cited in my wistful musing about The Martin Van Buren Guy, I've learned that it was directed by Michael Bay, pretty much at the peak of his career.)

**Obligatory SF references: Correspondents have already cited Michael Kurland's The Whenabouts of Burr and Jack Finney's "The Woodrow Wilson Dime" as examples of similar occurrences.
