Tom Swift and His Wardrobe Malfunction

"Do you have a needle and thread? My trousers have split," said Tom in an unseemly fashion.

I didn't realize anyone remembered what a "Tom Swiftly" even was.

Those who do not might benefit from this primer.

The statement "I bet I could knock that apple off your head" should have been said not archly, but tellingly.

Sounds like Tom was having a ripping good time.

Tailor's shop in Athens, c. 450BC:

"Euripides?"

"Yes. Eumenides?"

I think in one of the Marx Brothers's movies, Chico had a line that went, "Euripides pants, you pay for them."

Which reminds me of a joke heard in Canada...

Due to a Wardrobe Malfunction, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy found themselves magically transported to Sarnia...

This will amuse [livejournal.com profile] jeffreyab (unless he's already heard the joke on the streets of Sarnia).

Ever read any of the _original_ Tom Swift stories? When I was a kid the State Library (then located almost within easy walking distance of my parents' home) had several of those books in the regular lending section.

Yes, I have read a few; our school library had some of the senior Swifts and, having been a big fan of Junior's Atomic-Age adventures, I read some of them.

The only one I own is Tom Swift and His Photo-Telephone, which makes an interesting security argument for videophones: If you can see the person you're talking to, it's easier to be sure of his identity than with a voice-only phone. Voices can be imitated.
