Post-Rapture Thought

It would have been interesting if, the morning after the preacher had predicted the Rapture, we had awoken to find that all the people were still here-- but all the computers had vanished.

Someone at last night's Minnstf meeting suggested that perhaps the Rapture has already happened, and only honey bees were taken.

Or the computers were here, but all the software had vanished.

? They were expecting Rapture at 6pm local time? And they were
using their watch to wait for it? Since when would we be imposing
Daylight Savings Time and Universal Time upon God? Myself I am about 42
min difference between UT and natural time (noon truly peak position of
sun), putting the expectation to about 7:42 pm. I think the weatherman
called the all-clear for Rapture at about 6:21pm, but gave a chance for
thunderstorms overnight.

About 20 years ago, somebody I knew wrote such a story, though it wasn't explcitly Rapture. Based on what I now know about him, I'll wager somebody else wrote it first, using remarkably similar words.

Yeah, there was such a story (the robots were picked up, as I recall). Although if I had had to guess, I would have said it was a PKD story.

been done  I'm sure I've read a short story where the humans had built a gigantic robot army to fight the battle of Armageddon, so when the battle is over, it's the machines that get bodily lifted up to Heaven.

all the computers had vanished.

For years and years I wandered the earth
Until I died and went to hell
But my despair had ascended to heaven
That's how I finally got rid of it

Considering how dependent we have become on them, that would certainly be the End of the World....

Not computers, it looks like his A/C and copper were raptured.

...whereas if all the dolphins vanish, it isn't necessarily the Rapture (especially if they've left us a nice thank-you note).
