Particles Above, Particles Below

During Sunday night's spectacular auroral display (through which I managed to sleep), Marty Murphy in Operations took wonderful pictures of skies over Fermilab.

My favorite:

See other pictures here.

Todd Johnson called me to warn about the aurora, but as I was scheduled to go to work at 0430 (to change all the locks on the entrances to a two-mile accelerator, before everybody arrived for work), and I had already fallen asleep, I figured I would have a good chance of seeing the lights when I got up.

Unfortunately, skies were overcast by the time I got outdoors.

And it was cloudy Monday night.

I hear the Sun is still lively, and I may stand a chance of seeing something tonight...
