Phil Plait pointed out a nifty collection of covers for various editions of War of the Worlds, compiled by "Dr. Zeus" and friends. 337 covers, 110 years.

I've prepared an animated summary.

(Note: this Dr. Zeus is not the Dr. Zeus who plays with Tesla coils, but a different Dr. Zeus.)

Not for me on the home machine, either. But pasting in the "embedding" Picasa recommends only gave me the first frame of the GIF. I need to figure out how to do this.

(The file is very large, over 300 images at 116 by 171 pixels, for a total of 6.2 megabytes. So I am reluctant to stick it right in an LJ posting; I tried putting it behind a cut without success.)
