A Hundred Candles for L. Sprague de Camp

[livejournal.com profile] drzarron remembered before I did: today is the birthday of L. Sprague de Camp (1907-2000), author of science fiction, fantasy, history, literary biography, science, and engineering books. Among other things.

Here's to you, Mr. de Camp!

I should claim brilliance but it was [livejournal.com profile] maiac and her excellent "Interesting Stuff About..." daily posts that brought the momentous birthday to my attention.

Thanks for posting this. I have a large shelf of de Camp's books. I recall reading Lest Darkness Fall in high school, so I have been a fan of his for most of my life.

He, Fritz Lieber & Tolkien got me reading fantasy. My life is much richer for their gifts.

So you didn't notice me agitating on Usenet to remember this birthday, or catch the panel Steven Silver put together at Windycon?

Did Loscon do anything?
