Fifty Years since Vostok 1
We've been watching the 50th anniversaries march through the Space Age. Three and a half years ago, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first satellite. A few weeks from now, first American in space; ten months from now, first American in orbit; two years from now, first woman in space, and so forth.
Tuesday, 12 April, will be the fiftieth anniversary of the day Yuri Gagarin became the first person to orbit the Earth.

(Since the first U.S. Shuttle was, conveniently, launched on the 20th
anniversary of Gagarin's flight, we get a 30th anniversary for that at
